Apple TV offers a vast array of apps and entertainment options, but as you download more apps, your device’s storage may become limited. Deleting unused apps can help free up space and improve the performance of your Apple TV. In this guide, we’ll explore different methods for deleting apps on Apple TV, whether you have the 4th generation or later model.

Deleting Apps on Apple TV

Deleting Apps on Apple TV

Using the Siri Remote:

  • Navigate to the app you want to delete on the Apple TV home screen.
  • Press and hold the touch surface of the Siri Remote until the app starts to jiggle.
  • Once the app is jiggling, press the Play/Pause button on the remote.
  • A menu will appear with options. Select “Delete” to remove the app.
  • Confirm the deletion by selecting “Delete” again when prompted.

Using the Settings Menu:

  • Navigate to the “Settings” app on the Apple TV home screen.
  • Select “General” and then choose “Manage Storage.”
  • A list of installed apps will appear. Scroll to the app you want to delete.
  • Select the app, then choose “Delete App.”
  • Confirm the deletion by selecting “Delete” again when prompted.

Managing Apps on Apple TV

Organizing Apps into Folders:

  • Press and hold the touch surface of the Siri Remote on an app icon to enter edit mode.
  • Use the touch surface to move the app over another app to create a folder.
  • Release the touch surface to drop the app into the folder.
  • You can rename the folder by selecting it and pressing the Play/Pause button.

Offloading Unused Apps:

  • If you’re hesitant to delete an app permanently, you can offload it instead.
  • Navigate to the app in the “Settings” > “General” > “Manage Storage” menu.
  • Select the app and choose “Offload App” to remove the app but keep its data.
  • The app’s icon will remain on the home screen, and you can reinstall it anytime.

Troubleshooting

App Deletion Option Not Available:

  • If you don’t see the option to delete an app, it might be a pre-installed system app.
  • System apps cannot be deleted but can be hidden from the home screen.
  • Navigate to “Settings” > “Apps” and toggle off “Show on Home Screen” for the app.

App Deletion Not Freeing Up Space:

  • Sometimes, deleting an app may not free up as much space as expected due to cached data.
  • To clear app cache, uninstall and reinstall the app, or reset the Apple TV to factory settings.
